Mid-Century Luxe

This oceanfront residence is perched atop a rocky cliff on the southern tip of Vancouver Island and offers 270-degree views of the Olympic Mountains. The home is surrounded by wildlife and kayakers, and these clients were seeking a welcoming escape for their family — with room to play and host.

Three levels offer elevated vistas of the Salish Sea, and Jenny Martin Design worked with these clients to create an open, airy and bright coastal sanctuary — away from the frenetic pace of work and school. The team focused on maximizing function, and drew inspiration from the environment: sun-drenched oak that mimics driftwood, marble veining that captures the movement of water and rugged tile simulating textures of the surrounding ocean cliffs.

The design team created a spacious master suite with secluded but dramatic views, offering an unparalleled sense of lavish privacy. An oversized walk-in shower, freestanding tub and his-and-hers vanities turn the ensuite into a spa retreat. The central kitchen was transformed with few continuous walls and statement millwork. Built-ins were incorporated to house collections of fine dinnerware, stemware and small appliances, while a bold lower media room and wet bar create the perfect refuge to entertain friends and family.

The effect is a modern coastal palace with subtle Danish influences that exudes leisure and luxury.
