Geometry meets quality in this west coast farmhouse, with a design that marries luxurious materials and casual sophistication. This house was created as a sanctuary for busy homeowners who enjoy coming home to a restful space. 

Jenny Martin Design transformed a dated and segmented tudor-style cottage into a spacious modern build for this young professional couple. The client, a professional builder, requested a transitional design that offered a calm atmosphere, highlighted with unexpected, creative features. The design juxtaposes a restrained grey-and-white palette with bleached-walnut cabinets and a white oak hardwood floor. 

The existing structure was gutted to optimize flow between rooms and a spacious entry was built to seamlessly connect the two-storey foyer to the home’s upper and main levels. Fine details, like horizontal shiplap paneling around the central staircase, enhance the farmhouse feel while concealing a well-appointed pantry under the stairs. The walnut wood archway highlights the range, while a full porcelain slab backsplash brings visual elegance and practical livability to the kitchen. 

The effect is a timeless tribute to a modern farmhouse that’s as posh as it is practical, with a focus on quality that reflects the owner’s fine tastes.
